After her master studies in Latin American Studies (FU Berlin) and dramaturgy (Theaterakademie Hamburg), Meike Schmitz was employed as a dramaturg at the Deutsches Theater Berlin starting in 2009. Since 2014 she has been working as a freelance dramaturg and director at HAU Hebbel am Ufer, DT Berlin and in various freelance constellations in Germany and Switzerland.
She is part of the artistic direction of the inclusive theater collective FreiRaum and co-initiator of the venue Die Heitere Fahne in Bern, founded in 2013. With Theater FreiRaum, she has been regularly directing works with professional actors and people with disabilities since 2016 and is also co-responsible for the production management.

In 2015, Meike Schmitz received the Offstage Scholarship of the Canton of Bern together with the FreiRaum collective. Her work "Über Stock und Stein" was invited to the Wildwuchs Festival Basel in 2019.

Starting in 2022 Meike Schmitz be the production manager for the guts company. *
