Gregor Praml |
Composition, Music |
Aller Anfang (2017) |
Born in Germany and France, Gregor Praml now lives in his home town of Frankfurt am Main. He is closely linked to the cultural scene through a wide variety of projects and is active as a musician and composer as well as a presenter and event organizer. The studied electric bassist and double bassist (Franz Liszt University of Music, Weimar) was a member of the internationally award-winning ensemble Mi Loco Tango (including the International Piazzolla Competition 2008). With the jazz trio tri.of.us, he was then able to demonstrate his qualities as a double bass player with a penchant for playing with effects and loops. As a soloist, he won the International Sperger Double Bass Competition 2020 for his work "FRÜHLINGSPROLOG" (category "Creativity"). Praml likes to arrange and compose for theater, performance and dance productions based on the bass as the main instrument, which thus does not remain an accompanying instrument but appears as an unusual soloist. Improvisation is always an important element of his work.
Most recently, Gregor Praml was the composer responsible for the music for the dance theater pieces GLANZ*, ANGSTHASEN, GÄNSEHAUT UND ESPENLAUB (choreography: Célestine Hennermann) at Theaterhaus Frankfurt and Volksbühne im Großen Hirschgraben. For the latter two productions, together with Hennermann's Horde, he received the KARFUNKEL children's and youth theater award from the city of Frankfurt am Main in 2022. Gregor Praml has been the host of the successful concert talk series "The LOKAL Listener - Gregor Praml meets..." since 2017, with which he has established an important contribution to the cultural scene in the Rhine-Main area. He also works as a freelance music editor and author for Hessischer Rundfunk.
